The aim of this article is to show that p-adic geometry of modular curves is useful in the study of p-adic properties of traces of singular moduli. In order to do so, we partly answer a question by Ono. As our goal is just to illustrate how p-adic geometry can be used in this context, we focus on a relatively simple case, in the hope that others will try to obtain the strongest and most general results. For example, for p=2, a result stronger than Thm.1 is proved in [Boylan], and a result on...

We report a Chandra high-energy grating detection of a narrow, redshifted absorption line superimposed on the red wing of a broad Fe K line in the $z=0.297$ quasar E1821+643. The absorption line is detected at a confidence level, estimated by two different methods, in the range ~2-3 sigma. Although the detection significance is not high enough to exclude a non-astrophysical origin, accounting for the absorption feature when modeling the X-ray spectrum implies that the Fe-K emission line is...

We show how the Hopf algebra of rooted trees encodes the combinatorics of Epstein-Glaser renormalization and coordinate space renormalization in general. In particular we prove that the Epstein-Glaser time-ordered products can be obtained from the Hopf algebra by suitable Feynman rules, mapping trees to operator-valued distributions. Twisting the antipode with a renormalization map formally solves the Epstein-Glaser recursion and provides local counterterms due to the Hochschild 1-closedness of...

The distribution of the largest fragment is studied in different regions of the Lattice Gas model phase diagram. We show that first and second order transitions can be clearly distinguished in the grancanonical ensemble, while signals typical of a continuous transition are seen inside the coexistence region if a mass conservation constraint is applied. Some possible implications of these findings for heavy ion multifragmentation experiments are discussed.

In this paper we address two optimization problems arising in the design of genomic assays based on universal tag arrays. First, we address the universal array tag set design problem. For this problem, we extend previous formulations to incorporate antitag-to-antitag hybridization constraints in addition to constraints on antitag-to-tag hybridization specificity, establish a constructive upper bound on the maximum number of tags satisfying the extended constraints, and propose a simple greedy...

We use magnetotunneling spectroscopy to observe the spin splitting of the ground state of an X-valley-related Si-donor impurity in an AlAs barrier. We determine the absolute magnitude of the effective Zeeman spin splitting factors of the impurity ground state to be g$_{I}$= 2.2 $\pm $ 0.1. We also investigate the spatial form of the electron wave function of the donor ground state, which is anisotropic in the growth plane.

We have carried out a density functional study of the localized constraint on the delocalized, unoccupied resonance states in a mono atomic Au chain on a NiAl(110) surface by adsorption of a CO molecule on one of the adatoms in the chain. This constraint was observed recently by scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy. The repulsive interaction of the occupied 5${\sigma}$ molecular state with the unoccupied, resonance state in a Au adatom in the chain is found to break the degeneracy of...

We re-evaluate the event rate expected in km^3-scale detectors for neutrinos from the direction of the Galactic Center (GC) in light of recent spectral measurements obtained by the HESS instrument for ~TeV gamma-radiation from this direction. In the most plausible scenario the re-evaluated event rate is smaller than that previously calculated--and here re-calculated--on the basis of EGRET data. However, the GC TeV gamma-ray detections by the Whipple, CANGAROO, and HESS instruments, together...

Let the process Y(t) be a Skorohod integral process with respect to Brownian motion. We use a recent result by Tudor (2004), to prove that Y(t) can be represented as the limit of linear combinations of processes that are products of forward and backward Brownian martingales. Such a result is a further step towards the connection between the theory of continuous-time (semi)martingales, and that of anticipating stochastic integration. We establish an explicit link between our results and the...

The present paper reviews recent achievements on the ab initio determination of effective model Hamiltonians aimed at the description of strongly correlated materials. These models (Heisenberg, $t-J$, extended Hubbard, Kondo, etc) are crucial to solid state physicists for the description and understanding of the electronic remarkable properties such as magnetic orders, photo-induced magnetism, transport properties, high $t\_c$ super conductivity, etc. We will see how the association and the...

We analyze the effects of a nonlinear cubic perturbation on the delta-Kicked Rotor. We consider two different models, in which the nonlinear term acts either in the position or in the momentum representation. We numerically investigate the modifications induced by the nonlinearity in the quantum transport in both localized and resonant regimes and a comparison between the results for the two models is presented. Analyzing the momentum distributions and the increase of the mean square momentum,...

We obtain a collection of necessary (sufficient) conditions for a bipartite system of qubits to be separable (entangled), which are based on the Landau-Pollak formulation of the uncertainty principle. These conditions are tested, and compared with previously stated criteria, by applying them to states whose separability limits are already known. Our results are also extended to multipartite and higher-dimensional systems.

We formulate a U(1) gauge theory of the Hubbard model in the slave-rotor representation. From this formalism it is argued that spin liquid phases may exist near the Mott transition in the Hubbard model on triangular and honeycomb lattices at half filling. The organic compound k-(BEDT-TTF)_2 Cu_2 (CN)_3 is a good candidate for the spin liquid state on a triangular lattice. We predict a highly unusual temperature dependence for the thermal conductivity of this material.

Using 3.3 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the CMD-2 detector in the 720 -- 840 MeV c.m. energy range, the branching fraction of the conversion decay $\omega\to\pi^0e^+e^-$ has been measured: $\mathcal{B}(\omega\to\pi^0e^+e^-)=(8.19\pm0.71\pm0.62)\cdot10^{-4}$. The upper limits for the branching fractions of the following conversion decays have been obtained at the 90% confidence level: $\mathcal{B}(\rho\to\pi^0e^+e^-)

The low frequency excitations of C60 chains inserted inside single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have been studied by inelastic neutron scattering (INS) on a high quality sample of peapods. The comparison of the neutron-derived generalized phonon density of states (GDOS) of the peapods sample with that of a raw SWNTs allows the vibrational properties of the C60 chains encapsulated in the hollow core of the SWNTs to be probed. Lattice dynamical models are used to calculate the GDOS of chains...

We analyse the long-wavelength response of a normal Fermi liquid using Landau theory. We consider contributions from intermediate states containing one additional quasiparticle-quasihole pair as well as those from states containing two or more additional quasiparticle-quasihole pairs. For the response of an operator corresponding to a conserved quantity, we show that the behavior of matrix elements to states with more than one additional quasiparticle-quasihole pair at low excitation energies...

Faddeev-Yakubovski equations in configuration space are used to solve four nucleon problem for bound and scattering states. Different realistic interaction models are tested, elucidating open problems in nuclear interaction description. On one hand, by example of nonlocal Doleschall potential, we reveal possibility of reducing three-nucleon force. On the other hand we disclose discrepancies in describing n+$^3$H resonance, which seems to be hardly related with off-shell structure of...
